ATV Fall Ride to Jericho State Park - October 15, 2011

The Ammonoosuc Valley ATV Club did a fall ride in Jericho State Park. About 16 bikes joined the ride. The day was cool but little to no rain. The foliage had pretty much passed but the scenery from there is always breathtaking. We hope to do more such rides in 2012.

Enjoy these few photos from this October ride.

2011 Ammonoosuc Valley ATV Poker Run

The 2011 Ammonoosuc Valley ATV Poker Run was a great success. The day threatened rain but it didn't rain on our Poker Run! It was muggy and buggy but everyone had fun on the trail. The success of this event owes thanks to the many club volunteers, the members from the Guarantee Savings Banks and many other people who donated gifts, time and money. Please plan to attend the 2012 Poker Run which will be held on the 4th Saturday in September 2012. That would be September 22, 2012. Hope to see you all again next year.

Blackmount trail near Grafton County farm - 08/04/11

The trail has been changed a little at this area, now please go around to the back of vegetable stand and follow trail signs to go up the outside of the garden and cross new culvert at end and straight across highway. The speed limit is 10 MPH through this area due to people working in garden and visitors at stand. PLEASE STAY OUT OF GARDEN or we will have to change trail area, The state has been good to let us ride here so people will not have to cross sandy area along road. Lets not loose our chance for better trail. Thank You.

Trail maintance update - 06/30/11

The wash out under the covered bridge in Bath has been filled in with stone and the trail going up to the covered bridge has had fill brought in and leveled. We have started to do some grading of trail and will be doing more. We also will be putting up new sign posts and new signs between the Haverhill trail head and Woodsville.

First trail maintance day for 2011 - 05/14/11

The first trail maintance day for 2011 was held on May 14. It was an overcast day but great for the work that needed to get done.

A crew took the tractor and raked the trail from Haverhill to Woodsville. This smoothed it out a bit and we hope to actuallly grade the trail soon.

A crew moved ahead to look at the problem areas around the prison and at the covered bridge. The club will check with the State on grading across the street from the prison. The work crew with the tractor repaired a washout just north of the prison.

The trail at the covered bridge that goes up to the bridge needs grading and fill brought in. The club will work on getting this completed in the near future. The washout part by the covered bridge is rough and the club hopes to also fill that in to make it a bit smoother near the water.

Another crew picked up lots of trash along the trail and under the bridges -- it is amazing! Other raked out gates and fixed the on and off ramps of the bridges and trimed away any branches or trees that encroached the trail.

As trail administrator, I want to thank everyone who turned out for their assistance and hard work. It was fun and productive, thank you to all!

We have moved the June tail date to June 18th due to schedule conflicts so we hope to see you there!

Wendell

David Laleme has resigned his position as trail administrator. With his busy work schedule, he felt it best for the club to have someone in the position that could devote more time to the trails. Wendell Kenison agreed to fill the open position.

The  Ammonoosuc Valley ATV Club commends David for all his years of service as trail administrator and for the fine work he did to keep our trails in shape & safe. Thank you David!

Rail Trails - 03/03/08
I'm sure everyone has read the news articles and heard the news reports about ATV & Trail Bikes on rail trails in the winter. This is only on trails that were bought using federal funds. This does not affect our rail trail locally in any way, shape or form.

These are the trails that are impacted:

  •  Conway Branch (Ossipee-Conway)

  •  Northern (Boscawen-Lebanon)

  • Farmington (Farmington-Rochester)

  • Cheshire (North Walpole-Fitzwilliam)

  • Ashuelot (Keene-Winchester)

  • Fort Hill (Hinsdale)

  • Monadnock (Jaffrey-MA state line)

  • Manchester/Lawrence (Salem-Windham)

Community Day - 09/24/06
A thank you goes out to everyone who attended "Community Day" today, despite the rain toward the end. Turnout was fantastic and everyone enjoyed the free BBQ. The club extends a special thanks to The Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank for doing all of the BBQing. Great job guys!

North Haverhill Trailhead - 09/18/06
Our trailhead parking lot project was completed today. Hopefully this will take care of the severe mud conditions that appear here every spring. I guess time will tell.

Poker Run - 09/09/06
A thank you goes out to everyone who attended the poker run. It was a beautiful day to be out on the trails!
The top hand, which was a Full House (3 Jacks and a pair of 5's) was drawn by Nancy Shattuck of Warren, NH.
Congratulations Nancy!

Dust Control - 05/09/06
The club approved the purchase of a 45 gallon pressurized tow behind sprayer. This will enable us to lay down liquid calcium chloride on selected areas of the trails, that are near houses, to help control the dust. We hope to take delivery on this within the next few weeks. The Town of Haverhill has offered to supply us with the calcium chloride needed.

2006 GIA - 04/12/06
Our 2006 grant has been submitted . We are now waiting for notification on its approval. If all goes as planned, this will be a busy season. We are hoping to completely resurface 2 bridges (one in Bath and one in Woodsville). This is in addition to our normal grooming, grading and repairs. If you are interested in helping out with trail projects this season, please let the trail administrator know.

Trailer Update - 01/26/06
The club is happy to announce that we purchased an 18' equipment trailer to enable us to haul our tractor to different job locations. We expect to take delivery of the new trailer on 01/31/06. A special thanks goes out to Littleton Motorsports for helping us reach our goal.

Raffle Winner - 11/23/05
The raffle for two ATV's, two Snowmobiles or one of each which benefited Special Olympics New Hampshire, NHOHVA and local clubs is complete. Congratulations to Shaun Hawkins of Milford, NH who held the winning ticket #3556.

The Club was awarded a federal RTP grant in the amount of $18,000, which enabled us to purchase a new 2005 Kubota L2800 tractor with front bucket loader, 6 foot grader blade and 6 foot york rake. We took possession of the tractor early summer 2005. This tractor has allowed us to do better trail maintenance than has been possible in the past. Already this season, the tractor has been used to fill in several sink holes and washouts along the trails. We are currently looking for a trailer to allow us to haul the tractor around to different job locations.

Frank Stiegler has received generous donations for The Augie Fund from Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank, Walker Motor Sales, both of Woodsville, and Patten's Gas of North Haverhill. These funds will be put toward the completion and maintenance of "Augies Take a Break" pavilion across from Aldrich's General Store in North Haverhill. Our sincere thanks goes out to these folks!

In October 2005, the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank announced that our club was the chosen organization for their 3rd quarter "Casual Days" award. The club was presented with a check in the amount of $941 to benefit The Augie Fund. A sincere "Thank You" goes out to all of the bank employee's who made this award possible.
